Hello all! Welcome to the December Snakebasket, wherein we give you an opportunity to finish the year in style. There may be no Hit the Ode this month, but Wordsmiths & Co. returns with a third installment on Tuesday, this time featuring the great Jacob Sam-La Rose and Lemn Sissay himself!

One of Chicago’s greatest poets and educators, Peter Kahn, is coming to teach a Power Plant masterclass this Saturday – it’s on writing for slams, with a special focus on group pieces. It’s a rare opportunity to learn from a true champion of the genre – and it’s free. Why would you not give it a try? I’m genuinely curious. And then a little heads up – Tim Wells arrives to talk about freelancing in January’s edition!

Poets’ Place (Saturday 1st and 15th) and Go and See continue as planned… And there are new exciting developments in the works: talented poet and Apples intern Laura Dedicoat has been working hard with the Write Down Speak Up collective on a secret new project, and all her seat and toil is about to bear fruit. Watch this space for special announcements about new opportunities to come in 2013!

See you very soon!
