Hello all! Summer seems to have come and gone, but weren’t those a wonderful six days? No time to dilly-dally and reminisce about seasons past, my friends – June is a busy month for poets.
First and foremost, the Shake the Dust final for the region is here! I’ve been visiting the schools participating in the project, and it is not exaggeration to say that you will likely be moved to tears if you manage to obtain tickets for the performance at the Drum. The dedication, talent, and enthusiasm of the young poets are truly special. You owe it to yourself to see this. The Drum, Saturday 9 June, catch them – and a guest set from Akala – and have your faith in humanity strengthened. Unmissable.
The first round of Go and See has closed now. This new scheme, which we run in collaboration with Punch, allows West Midlands poets to explore the scene beyond our region. It’s a rare opportunity, and it costs nothing to give it a go, so what’s stopping you? It’s on a rolling deadline, with submissions accepted until the last day of each month. Give it a go!
This month is also your last chance to attend a Hit the Ode before we take a break over the summer months, only to return in September. With a particularly strong line-up and one of the best audiences in the country, what could go wrong? But before that, why not pop over into the East Midlands for Carol Leeming‘s The Loneliness of the Long Distance Diva, on at the Curve Theatre in Leicester?
Speaking of September, I would advise you to keep the first day of that month, which happens to be a Saturday, free. I hate to be a tease, but believe me, it’ll be worth your while. Watch this space for further info!
