Forked at Sea Change Festival – A Review by Seren Kiremitcioglu

Forked at Sea Change Festival – A Review by Seren Kiremitcioglu

This year Totnes held their very first Sea Change Festival. Hosted by Drift Record Store, it was the first of its kind to bring a host of artists and musicians to the small town of Totnes, and of course we at Apples and Snakes just had to be a part of the small revolution. We headed over to the Birdwood House on Saturday 27th August to present Forked with Mama Tokus, Rose Cook, Rob Barratt, Jackie Juno and Londoner headliner, Kayo Chingonyi!

Making my way on the train to …

A Week with Apples and Snakes by Seren Kiremitcioglu

Seren Kiremitcioglu interns at Apples and Snakes HQ for a week, here she blogs about her experience…

In March 2016, I discovered the wonderful world of Apples and Snakes. After getting back from a spontaneous trip abroad, I was frustrated – I wanted to constantly feel purposeful and excited for life, not just when I decided to hop on a plane. So, I started looking for opportunities that would provide me with some purpose and ‘get up and go.’ Spoken word was always something I was intrigued to watch, …

FORKED: A Review

Nestled in the cobbled streets of the Barbican, surrounded by velvet curtains and candle light, you will find the FORKED poets ready and waiting to entertain… FORKED first-timer, Seren Kiremitcioglu, reviews Plymouth’s favourite spoken word night…

On a rather drizzly and wet Thursday 19 May, I made my way over to The B-Bar in Plymouth with my good friend by my side; sitting down in the warm, inviting room with Thai food and beer in hand, I fully enjoyed a night of entertaining, insightful and thought-provoking performances of poetry …

Forked: A Review

A review of the poets who performed at the last “Forked” at the Barbican, Plymouth – written by Tara Pilkington…

Hidden away within the cobbled streets of the Barbican in Plymouth is a small venue called The B-Bar, which is the location for the spoken word event ‘Forked’. Forked is a bi-monthly event hosted by Apples and Snakes but this is the first evening that I have attended. Inside of the B-Bar there is a purple-hazy-glow that only a place that hosts a poetry night could have and the atmosphere …

Poet of the Month: Mama Tokus

The Apples and Snakes Poet of The Month is our way of presenting to you some of our favourite poets working across the country. Well, Happy New me!

It’s the first month of 2015 and Apples and Snakes have picked me to be Poet of the Month. It’s like my own New Year’s …

The fallen leaves that jewel the ground,
they know the art of dying
and leave with joy their glad gold hearts
in the scarlet shadows lying.

Incredible String Band there with ‘October Song’, pop-pickers.

Hey, now that’s poetry. And October, of …

Gosh, can you believe it’s 2013? When I was a lad, there was a TV programme called Space: 1999, in which glamorous aliens underwent full-body molecular transformation in the time in takes you or me to make a cup of tea. A neat link, there, to The Rememberers, Kenny Baraka’s spectacular sci-fi spoken-word show. Imagine if you knew all the accumulated knowledge of your ancestors. (Think how full …
