30th Anniversary wrap up!

All through November we’ve been celebrating Apples and Snakes’ 30th anniversary. Here’s what we’ve been up to!

We staged 30 Events in 30 Days across England: starting with a bit of a party at Free Word Centre for the people we work with – have a look at photos from the event below! Throughout November we put on artist workshops, live gigs and education events, all culminating in our big John Cooper Clarke show last weekend in partnership with The Albany, who are also celebrating their 30th! In the words of the song,“December man looks through the snow to let eleven brothers know they’re all a little older.” And how. But enough of this mal du siècle – we have a thrilling month in store. This Friday, we launch The Writing Room (it took us hours to think that one up), a workshop for poets in the 18-25 bracket. Our SPIN show pirouettes off to the Southbank on …

First is Wordshuffle Café, a poetry residency at The Albany, kicking off on the very first of this month. There’ll be poets popping up when and where you least expect them; passers-by will be …

An extract from August’s London Snakebasket

This is an extract from August’s London Snakebasket, to view the full version, click here.

Hello there!

Shout it from the rooftops or trill it into the ear of a loved one: there are no Apples and Snakes shows in London during the month of August. So I’m just going to start a groundswell of excitement for some of the fabbo stuff coming up in our autumn season.

We kick off on 5 September with Buddy Wakefield (twice World Slam Champion) at the Gallery Cafe in Bethnal Green – …

An extract from August’s West Midlands Snakebasket

This is an extract from August’s West Midlands Snakebasket, to view the full version, click here.

Hello all!

August is traditionally when things slow down a little, as people get distracted by the heat of summer (ha!), various spoken events (ha, I say!) and festivals. I would not get too complacent if I were you, however. Go and See and Poets’ Place are still going, which means now is the time to go looking for inspiration, write new work and share it with like-minded people.

If you need your …
